I own a nice step up from that combo Savage gun, but still it's a far cry from expensive European combos. It's a Valmet 412s, with a .308 under a 12 ga upper barrel. If I'm not mistaken Valmet also made a 512 that's basically the same gun. Valme produced what they termed a 'shooting system' in Finland with the 412s coming out about mid to late 70s and a very similar Savage combo(made by Tikka) prior to it. The 412s is a very well made gun featuring double O/U shotgun barrels in several different configurations and double rifle barrel sets too. So, and owner could theoretically own, using the same receiver 12ga, 20 ga O/Us, double rifles in .308, 30/06, and 9.3x74 along with combination barrels in 222/223/12, .243/12, .308/12 and 30/06/12. The top of the universally used receiver is dovetailed for a specially made Valmet scope mount, so it can be used for double shotgun, combination , or double rifle. These Valmets and later Tikkas are still seen at times on major online gunbroker sites and can be had at pretty good prices. I own a 12/.308 with scope(Weaver 1-3) and double 12ga set, and love it.
