The New Ortho-Flex

In May of 2013, Ortho-Flex, LLC was purchased by The Winner's Circle Horse Supply of Shelbyville, TN.
Since that time we have been contacted by many Ortho-Flex owners with many different concerns and ideas.
After much thought and research we have caught a vision for the new era of Orth-Flex.

The New Ortho-Flex Flex Bar System

As we looked for the latest and greatest in the saddle tree market we quickly realized that the Steele Saddle Tree Company was ahead of the rest. Their expertise and long history in making saddle trees lead us to utilize their knowledge in selecting the proper tree system. The system we will be using on all new models of Ortho-Flex saddles is unique and different than anything else on the market today. The Flex Bar System uses the versatile elements of flexible bars but also uses a hybrid seating system to anchor the tree for stability of the rider. This system creates a stable riding experience for the rider but allows freedom of movement for the horse. We think once you get a glimpse of our new technology and line up of new models, you will want to experience one for yourself.

Happy Trails,

It had a suspended seat and there was a mechanism that sort of swiveled the angle of the bars. Saddle Fit for the Gaited Horse by Matt Miller & Gary Lane - PART II

New article published by Gary Lane - The Safe Trail HorseClick Here

Hi Matt,
I just can’t thank you and National Bridle Shop enough for helping me to find the saddle I have been looking for. I tried riding English and didn’t really like them. I’m more of a western person. I didn’t want a horn any more and have been looking for a very cushy comfortable saddle that fits me and my horse. You took the time and listened to my wants as well as looking at photos you requested I send you. You were correct about what size saddle I needed as well as the width my horse needed. The saddle I purchased from you is the TPS plush lite endurance saddle with fenders that I prefer. I don’t have a gaited horse and you were right again because it fits great and she can move beautifully. I am retired (67 years old) and ride all the time. I’m in the saddle at least 10 hours a week. The saddle is soooo comfortable. I even rode this am in the rain because I can’t get enough of this wonderful saddle. I love posting in the trot and canter in this soft seat. I don’t feel like I’m in a saddle.I feel like I’m on a marshmallow. I’m strictly a trail rider. Your customer service and products are tremendous.
I follow the center fire rigging that your video explains so clearly. If any of your customers would like to ask me any questions feel free to give them my number or email address.
You’re the best…
My Deepest Thanks,
Nancy Marrier

Is a Perfect Fit Possible?
This question should really be: Is a Perfect Fit Necessary? Many well meaning horse owners live in strife over achieving a perfect saddle fit for their horse. There are dozens of variables and moving targets one must achieve to perfection in order to get a perfect fit, and then that perfect fit may only last for a few hours. WHY? The three main categories of concern in saddle fit are constantly changing.

THE SADDLE TREE THE RIDER THE HORSE

The Saddle Tree is the only category that can remain constant. The Rider and The Horse are constantly changing. Loss of weight, changing muscle tone and simple movement when riding can all create fitting variables.

The GOAL-

The goal should be to get a positive fit. What is a positive fit? A positive fit is achieved when rider and horse comfort are at a satisfactory level when riding for a specified period of time. If you are a trail rider, the goal is to be comfortable on the trail without any significant discomfort to your horse. The first step in achieving this goal is to have a positive match on your tree bar angle.

The bar angle is the defining element of the tree as to saddle fit with swell gullet width, twist, rock, flare, crown, relief, length, pattern and channel as secondary elements. This angle is described in the generic terms of: quarter horse bars, full quarter horse bars, semi-quarter horse bars. Tree makers express this angle in degrees and is calculated by a geometric and mathematical formula. The higher number in degrees the flatter the angle.

The angle of the tree bar must correspond to the angle of the horses saddle pocket (below the withers and back of the shoulder blade). When this is achieved, the margin for error in fitting is drastically reduced. A positive fit is just a few steps away.
