From furries to dubstep guns and dildo bats, Saints Row IV was a wild ride from start to finish. With the return of your favorite characters but in a new virtual Steelport makes for an interesting formula. Now let’s go a little more in depth into the wild world of being the President of the United States. Before we start this review, let’s look at the trailer:

I got my hands on the game during the Steam Summer Sale for steal at only $10 but right now the games sitting at $20. Is it worth that much? I believe so. So far I have invested almost 50 hours into gameplay and i haven’t regretted a single one. Now lets get into the details. CAUTION! SPOILERS AHEAD!

GAMEPLAY

The main story line was truly bizarre but in that wonderful Saints Row way. You play as the President of the United States when an alien invasion happens, causing Earth to be destroyed. You might think thats the end, but we’ve only just started. Your soon transported into your own personal nightmare which happens to be a 60s sitcom. After breaking out and getting to virtual Steelport, that’s when the real fun starts happening. The gameplay is a fun experience but eventually things like flashpoints become too easy and repetitive as you become overpowered. After you finish the main storyline, there’s still plenty of things to do around Steelport so you can still enjoy being the super-powered President of the United States. After all these things are done…well I don’t know what to tell you.

The main storyline was about 8 hours of gameplay and included just some great moments like giant soda cans named Paul and the required singalongs with Pierce. The characters were memorable from the return of our friend Johnny Gat and a suprise visit from Saints Row 2 Shaundi (or Fun Shaundi as she’s called in game) Every time you had to retrieve a character was a unique experience that wasn’t just a repeated formula, you never knew what to expect. It could be a 2D side scroller or even having to fight evil you.

Another option of how to play was to invite a friend into your game which always led to a super fun time for me. Co-op was easily initiated and uses a system similar to Borderlands 2 where you and your friends can just drop in and out of eachothers games whenever you wish, but there were more glitches within co-op.

The controls were easy to grasp and were highly similar to SR3. Although I wasn’t a fan of the hot key system for powers because i like a system more like the one used for the weapons where I can just scroll to find it without having to go through tedious menus.

Oh, dubstep gun you were so overpowered and I loved you.

GRAPHICS

Steelport is a great looking city in the game, with little touches like every sign being changed to something Zinyak has to say it just all ties together very well. Throughout the game you also experience changes in style like the 2D side scroller you have to go through to save the not dead Johnny Gat so you just don’t have to deal with Steelport all the time.

How else are you supposed to bring back the most badass Saint?

COMPLAINTS

There’s not much I have to complain about the 4th installment in the Saints Row franchise but I do have a couple of problems. After a while of spending time in Steelport things around the city are repetitive and the only buildings you can go inside are the stores and a couple others. After you finish the main storyline and activities there’s not really much to do in Steelport but at least it had more to do than Fable 3 after you beat it. Another problem I have is in co-op, playing with friends we repeatedly had the problems of not being able to call for vehicles or our cars getting stuck in the ground or even once, getting stuck inside a building not even made to be entered. Some of the mechanics just didn’t make sense. For example, I can easily lift an airplane with telekinesis but not a port-a-potty? But does it really matter if you can pick up a port-a-potty? Not really.

CONCLUSION

Saints Row 4 Sandbox+ Mod

In conclusion, Saints Row IV is a fabulous game with few flaws. With a super high replay value, I’ll probably be back playing in a few months. So SR4 gets…..
